Mercedes Benz in our opinion mades its name on some of its earlier cars;
300SL, 280SE 3.5 and the mid 80's car specifically its diesel cars.
It is hard to remember but if you wanted a Merc in the late 70's to mid 80's most
likely you would buy a diesel.

Mercedes Motoring located in LA is dedicated to these cars and usually have a few in stock; from
the looks of things(their site and these pictures) it is safe to say that they do a tremendous job
in their restorations.

Diesels are making a comeback in the US and Mercedes is once again promoting its
diesel cars; now with BlueTec. The combination of this urea injection system and low sulfur
diesel fuel will address one of diesel's main drawback that of being more polluting than regular
gasoline.

Our COD, a 1981 240D, is a great example of an early Merc diesel. We love these cars for their
elegance; the brightwork on these old Mercs is something special.
These cars are know for their robustness and longevity but are also know for their
lack of ommph. Mercedes has a 240D in it museum which covered over 4.6million km
working as a taxi. Infact, in many parts of Africa and the Middle East you will still see
these cars on the road as taxi.

This is the 2.4L diesel engine which puts out about 67HP but will get you over 30mpg.

The interior is MB Tex which most will tell will survive until the people no longer walk the
earth. This car interior is showroom clean and seems like a great palce to send a few hours of
drinving pleasure.

Mid 80's and 90's Merc are known for having large sunroofs and this car is no except.
This is essentially a new car but with alot more pizzaz and personality.
Overall, a very, very nice car in showroom condition and presentation; hopefully it will find a new
owner-diesel lover or not-who will appreciate it.
Here is vid of Mercedes sedans from the 1970's when the 240D was developed. |
